Cockroaches During the Day
Cockroaches during the day can be unsettling, especially when they keep appearing in a kitchen or pantry. Record each sighting and its location before deciding whether it is an isolated visitor or a recurring problem.
The short answer
Cockroaches normally hide by day and are active at night. A daytime sighting deserves a closer look, but its timing alone does not establish the size or source of an infestation.
University of Minnesota Extension: CockroachesCompare the clues
Use these observations to explain the concern. A possible explanation still needs to be checked at the property.
| What you notice | What it could mean | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| One insect after moving a box | The disturbance is useful context | Record where the box came from |
| Repeated kitchen sightings | A recurring concern needs assessment | Keep a dated log |
| Sightings in a shared corridor | The boundary affects who can inspect | Notify the responsible estate contact |
What could explain the signs?
Use the surrounding evidence to describe the concern. These possibilities help frame an inspection; they do not confirm the cause in your property.
Repeated sightings in one area
Keep separate entries for each sighting. Include whether an appliance was moved, a cupboard was opened or cleaning was underway when the insect appeared.
One insect near an entrance
Record the nearby window, door or delivery area. One observation cannot show whether the insect came from outside, arrived with an item or was already sheltering inside.
What you can check first
Photograph the insect if it is visible without moving equipment. Note its approximate size and the exact time. Check accessible cupboard edges for other evidence and keep food and waste covered.
When to arrange an assessment
Request an inspection when sightings recur, involve several areas or include smaller insects and egg cases. In an HDB or condo, distinguish activity inside your unit from shared corridors or refuse areas.
Cockroach Control SingaporeCommon questions
Use the observations to ask specific questions before agreeing to an inspection or further work.
Does seeing one in daylight mean a severe infestation?
It does not prove severity. Ask the inspector to explain the physical findings and inspection limits before discussing treatment.
What should I include in an enquiry?
Include your property type, the exact affected area, when the sign appeared and whether it has returned. SG Pest Control receives the enquiry; inspection, findings and any work must be agreed separately with the business responsible.
Not sure what you have noticed?
Tell us where the concern is, what you have seen and whether it keeps returning.
