Confirm the problem and its boundary
NEA describes visual inspection and surveillance traps as ways to detect bed bugs. Its management overview lists a combination of physical and chemical methods and advises infested premises to engage a pest management company. A mattress-only proposal needs an explanation if findings also involve the frame, nearby furniture or another room.
Give the assessor an observation map
List each resting area, the dates of findings and any furniture moved between rooms. Keep a clear photograph of the insect or evidence. Ask the assessor to record what is confirmed, uncertain and inaccessible.
Ask which areas are included
Clarify whether the inspection covers the bed base, headboard, adjoining furniture and other sleeping areas. In a shared property, agree who can authorise access and how findings outside the room will be communicated.
Compare methods and preparation as one plan
US EPA describes integrated pest management as combining approaches rather than relying on a single quick fix. Use that principle to ask why each proposed method fits the findings. It is not evidence that a particular heat or insecticide package will work in your room.
Before a proposed heat treatment
Ask who removes heat-sensitive items, how inaccessible spaces are assessed and what checks establish the treatment boundary. Do not improvise room heating with domestic heaters.
Before targeted product work
Request written instructions covering belongings, occupants, pets, treated surfaces, re-entry and later cleaning. Disclose anything already applied so the assessor can plan around it.
Agree follow-up before work begins
Ask what the follow-up visit examines and what evidence would lead to further work. Record fresh sightings by date and location instead of treating every mark or skin reaction as proof of failure. Do not add products or move treated furniture without checking the agreed plan.
Quotation factors and limits
Compare room and furniture coverage, preparation assistance, method, included return visits, monitoring, disposal and access restrictions. Ask for the total payable sum, any extra-room charge and written exclusions. A guarantee needs a defined remedy and conditions; this website provides no treatment guarantee or provider price.
Before spending on a new mattress
It is understandable to want the bed out of the flat immediately. Settle the handling and room assessment first. Ask whether the mattress can be kept, what else needs checking and whether collection is part of the price. A replacement purchase and a room treatment solve different problems.
